Fix Your Eyes On the Goal / Fixez Vos Regards Sur Le But

 

Philippians: 3:13

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

There is a worthy goal in this life. Yes, life is not a random living with activities and events. God designed everyone's life with a purpose and there is an overall goal to attend. Apostle Paul understood it and he focused his attention and energy on the goal. This is what he revealed as his secret in life: 

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Yes, I know that many people will say to me, "oh, Paul was an apostle; he had a call from God. O am not an apostle". Yes, he had a call. You too, there is a call in your life. You may not be an apostle, but you are also called and chosen by God for a purpose. And the overall goal, is Christ. 

Listen to the same Paul when he was addressing the Ephesians, 

“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

(Ephesians 5:17).

Brethren, the will of God is our call, our focus, and our determination. The will of God is that everyone should make it in life with Christ. 

In order to reach that goal, these are the things to consider.

1. Fix your eyes on Jesus Christ. Where your eyes are fixed will determine your destination. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.

2. Let go past things. 

Paul says, “forgetting the things that are behind.” Don't get stocked in the past. Life is ahead and not behind. 

3. Follow worthy cause. “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ... that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death” (Philippians 3:7‭, ‬10).

Apostle Paul did many things in life: he wrote books, preached the Gospel, made tents, prayed, travelled, met people and so on, but his number one goal was to know Christ and the power of His resurrection. 

What is your number one goal in life? What drives you and motivates you everyday? If there is something else than Christ that dominates your life and your focus, I am afraid that you are running the wrong race and  fighting the wrong fight. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Don't lose sight of Him. He is our only satisfaction in this life and the life to come.

« Frères, je ne me considère pas comme ayant appréhendé ; mais je fais une chose, oubliant ce qui est en arrière et tendant la main vers ce qui est en avant, je me précipite vers le but pour le prix de l'appel celeste de Dieu en Jésus-Christ. »

Il y a un but louable dans cette vie. Oui, la vie n’est pas une in jeux du hasard avec des activités et des événements. Dieu a conçu la vie de chacun avec un but et il y a un objectif global à atteindre. L’apôtre Paul l’a compris et a concentré son attention et son énergie sur l’objectif. Voici ce qu’il a révélé comme son secret de vie :

« Je cours vers le but pour le prix de l'appel celeste de Dieu en Jésus-Christ. »

Oui, je sais que beaucoup de gens me diront : « oh, Paul était un apôtre ; il a reçu un appel de Dieu. Oh, je ne suis pas un apôtre ». 

Oui, il a certe reçu un appel. Vous aussi, il y a un appel dans votre vie. Vous n’êtes peut-être pas apôtre, mais vous êtes également appelé et choisi par Dieu dans un but précis. Et le but global, c’est Christ.

Écoutez le même Paul lorsqu'il s'adressait aux Éphésiens,

« Ne soyez donc pas imprudent, mais comprenez quelle est la volonté du Seigneur. » (Éphésiens 5:17).

Frères, la volonté de Dieu est notre appel, notre objectif et notre détermination. La volonté de Dieu est que chacun réussisse dans la vie avec Christ. Afin d’atteindre cet objectif, voici les éléments à considérer.

1. Fixez vos yeux sur Jésus-Christ. L’endroit où vos yeux seront fixés déterminera votre destination. Jésus est l'auteur et le consommateur de notre foi.

2. Lâchez prise des choses passées.

Paul dit : « oublier les choses qui sont derrière. » Ne vous focaliser pas dans le passé. La vie est en avant et non derrière.

3. Poursuivez une bonne cause. « Mais ce qui m'a été un gain, je l'ai considéré comme une perte pour Christ... afin que je puisse le connaître, ainsi que la puissance de sa résurrection, et la communion de ses souffrances, étant conforme à sa mort » (Philippiens 3 : 7, 10).

L’apôtre Paul a fait beaucoup de choses dans la vie : il a écrit des livres, prêché l’Évangile, fabriqué des tentes, prié, voyagé, rencontré des gens, etc., mais son objectif numéro un était de connaître Christ et la puissance de sa résurrection.

Quel est votre objectif numéro un dans la vie ? Qu'est-ce qui vous anime et vous motive au quotidien ? S’il y a quelque chose d’autre que Christ qui domine votre vie et votre concentration, j’ai peur que vous vous trompiez de course et que vous meniez le mauvais combat. Fixez vos yeux sur Jésus. Ne le perdez pas de vue. Il est notre seule satisfaction dans cette vie et dans la vie à venir.
