2 Samuel 24:24
"Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.”
It is true that one can give very huge amounts of money for God's work or during thanksgiving without truly loving God. But it is also true that one cannot truly love God without give his best and sometimes his all to God. Let's see an example, the man, David.
The love of David for God was evident in everything David did and most especially in giving. There was a plague in the land and God's prophet, Gad instructed David to offer a sacrifice to God in order to stop the plague. Sacrifice to God are very powerful expressions of love and gratitude. It is like a sweet smelling perfume to God.
In obedience to the instruction, David went to Araunah, a man who had everything David needed. Araunah proposed to offer everything to the King free of charge. But, hear the answer of the David,
“No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.” (2 Samuel 24:24).
Friends, how you view God will determined what you give to Him and how you give to Him. David was so conscious of whom God is to him. He valued the things of God. He loved the house of God. He loved the work and the people of God. When it came to giving to God to stop the plague, He could not give a free gift to God; it must cost him something. If you are to truly honour God, it must cost you something.
Some people give from their left overs. They do not engage any effort to look for what to give. They just pick anything or any amount. That it the plague of most Christians in Cameroon. We are still to learn to honour God and honour his servants. In Nigeria for example, people give houses and cars. People offer to buy all the chairs in a church house. People offer many kind of service just to recognize the hand of God and honour God.
Friends, I want you to look at the worth you give to things and the value you give to Jesus in your life. Are things, money, your name more valuable to you than the name of Jesus?
Many Christians still have the same perspective as the disciples as we saw yesterday. They esteem things more valuable than Jesus Christ. When other things are put on a scale of their heart with Jesus, those things weigh far more than Christ: their job, their cars, clothes so much that they cannot give them up for the sake of Christ. Ask yourself, if God calls you now to full time ministry and wants you to quick your job, will you give up your job? If you are led to kneel down with your nice dress on a dusty floor, will you do it? If God ask me to release my car for his ministry, will I do it? Many people have blocked their blessings by refusing to hid to God's voice. If one attaches himself to things more than to God, it becomes idolatry.
Friends, there is nothing in this world that we give for God's work that will impress God. He created all things. Rather, when He sees the sincerity of our love demonstrated in giving our best, He is moved to act on our behalf. Give God your best thanksgiving sacrifice in this season and watch what He will do to you.

Il est vrai qu'on peut donner d'énormes sommes d'argent pour l'œuvre de Dieu ou pendant les actions de grâces sans vraiment aimer Dieu. Mais il est également vrai qu’on ne peut pas vraiment aimer Dieu sans donner le meilleur de soi et parfois tout à Dieu. Voyons un exemple, l'homme, David.
L’amour de David pour Dieu était évident dans tout ce qu’il faisait et plus particulièrement dans ses dons. Il y avait une peste dans le pays et le prophète de Dieu, Gad, a demandé à David d'offrir un sacrifice à Dieu afin d'arrêter la peste. Les sacrifices à Dieu sont des expressions très puissantes d’amour et de gratitude. C’est comme un parfum doux pour Dieu. Conformément aux instructions, David se rendit chez Araunah, un homme qui avait tout ce dont David avait besoin. Araunah proposa de tout offrir gratuitement au roi. Mais écoutez la réponse de David, « Non, mais je vous l'achèterai sûrement à prix; et je n'offrirai pas d'holocauste à l'Éternel mon Dieu avec ce qui ne me coûte rien." Alors David acheta l'aire et les bœufs pour cinquante sicles d'argent. » (2 Samuel 24:24).
Mes amis, la façon dont vous voyez Dieu déterminera ce que vous lui donnez et comment vous lui donnez. David était tellement conscient de qui Dieu était pour lui. Il appréciait les choses de Dieu. Il aimait la maison de Dieu. Il aimait le travail et le peuple de Dieu. Lorsqu’il s’agissait de donner à Dieu pour arrêter la peste, Il ne pouvait pas faire un don gratuit à Dieu ; ça doit lui coûter quelque chose.
Si vous voulez vraiment honorer Dieu, cela doit vous coûter quelque chose. Certaines personnes donnent leurs restes à Dieu. Ils ne font aucun effort pour chercher quoi donner. Ils choisissent simplement n'importe quoi ou n'importe quel montant. C'est le fléau de la plupart des chrétiens du Cameroun. Nous devons encore apprendre à honorer Dieu et à honorer ses serviteurs. Au Nigeria par exemple, les gens donnent des maisons et des voitures. Les gens proposent d’acheter toutes les chaises d’une église. Les gens offrent de nombreux types de services simplement pour reconnaître la main de Dieu et honorer Dieu.
Mes amis, je veux que vous regardiez la valeur que vous donnez aux choses et la valeur que vous donnez à Jésus dans votre vie. Les choses, l'argent, votre nom ont-ils plus de valeur pour vous que le nom de Jésus ?
De nombreux chrétiens ont encore la même perspective que les disciples, comme nous l’avons vu hier. Ils estiment les choses plus précieuses que Jésus-Christ.
Quand d’autres choses sont mises sur la balance de leur cœur avec Jésus, ces choses pèsent bien plus que Christ : leur travail, leurs voitures, leurs vêtements, tellement qu’ils ne peuvent pas les abandonner pour l’amour de Christ. Demandez-vous si Dieu vous appelle maintenant au ministère à plein temps et veut que vous abandoniez votre travail, abandonnerez-vous votre travail ? Si vous êtes conduit à vous agenouiller avec votre jolie vêtement sur un sol poussiéreux, le ferez-vous ? Si Dieu te demande de libérer ta voiture pour son ministère, le feras-tu?
Beaucoup de gens ont bloqué leurs bénédictions en refusant d'obeir à la voix de Dieu. Si l’on s’attache aux choses plus qu’à Dieu, cela devient de l’idolâtrie.
Mes amis, il n'y a rien dans ce monde que nous donnons pour l'œuvre de Dieu qui puisse impressionner Dieu. Il a créé toutes choses. Au contraire, lorsqu’il voit la sincérité de notre amour démontrée en donnant le meilleur de nous-mêmes, il est poussé à agir en notre faveur. Offrez à Dieu votre meilleur sacrifice de remerciement en cette saison et observez ce qu'il vous fera.
