Fighting the Good Fight of Faith (Part One) / Combattre le Bon Combat de la Foi (Première Partie)

1 Timothy 6:11-12

"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses."

The Christian life is not passive religious life. It is an intentional and purposeful fight to enforce the will of God on earth as it is in heaven. It is a battle to establish God's kingdom in our lives and every sphere of human endeavours. No one who has been enrolled into the Christian army dare to be indifferent and passive about this matter. 

Look, there are some key words that Paul used to introduce this powerful command to Timothy; 

In verse 11, we read  

1. Flee from all this; that is, fleeing from the love of money he talked about in verse 10. 

2. Pursue (righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness). You see that all of these have a lot of connection with the fruit of the spirit in Galatians 5) 

3. Take Hold of the eternal life. To take hold means to seize, to catch... 

All these verbs are action verbs. They require intentionality. There is a good confession that Timothy made at the beginning of his spiritual life with Christ. He mist adjust his life and stand on that good confession. For this to happen, Timothy must FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH!

Friends, there is a fight, a battle going on in this world. It is the mother of all small battles here and there. Paul talks about the good fight of faith. 

There is a good fight and there is a bad fight in life. Which one are you fighting? 

Well, it is worth to know that life itself is a fight- from conception, delivery and throughout the journey of life. There are battles; battles for one thing or the other; battle against one thing and the other. Even if you don't want to fight, there are things that will fight you; people will fight you; the devil and his kingdom will fight you; even your flesh will fight you (Galatians 5: 16-18). 

The world in which we live is not a friendly place. Most especially when it has to do with operating the kingdom of God or making our way into the things of God. 

Our master said: 

“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force." (Matt 11:12)

Further, He said that in this world we (His disciples) will have many tribulations. 

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33). 

You must be ready to fight. And the assurance is that Christ has overcome for us. Hallelujah! We will see more about this tomorrow by the grace of God.

 1 Timothée 6 :11-12

"Combats le bon combat de la foi. Saisis la vie éternelle à laquelle Tu as été appelé lorsque tu as fait ta bonne confession en présence de nombreux témoins."

La vie chrétienne n'est pas une vie religieuse passive. Il s’agit d’un combat intentionnel et déterminé pour faire respecter la volonté de Dieu sur terre comme au ciel. C'est une bataille pour établir le royaume de Dieu dans nos vies et dans toutes les sphères des activités humaines. Aucun de ceux qui ont été enrôlés dans l’armée chrétienne n’ose rester indifférent et passif à ce sujet. Écoutez, il y a quelques mots clés que Paul a utilisés pour présenter ce puissant commandement à Timothée : Au verset 11, nous lisons 

1. Fuis tout cela ; c'est-à-dire fuir l'amour de l'argent dont il parle au verset 10. 

2. Poursuis (la justice, la piété, la foi, l'amour, l'endurance et la douceur). Vous voyez que tout cela a beaucoup de liens avec le fruit de l’esprit dans Galates 5) 

3. S'emparer de la vie éternelle. S'emparer signifie saisir, attraper...

Tous ces verbes sont des verbes d'action. Ils nécessitent de l’intentionnalité. Il y a une bonne confession que Timothée a faite au début de sa vie spirituelle avec Christ. Il doit ajuster sa vie et s’appuyer sur cette bonne confession. Pour que cela arrive, Timothée doit COMBATTRE LE BON COMBAT DE LA FOI ! 

Mes amis, il y a un combat, une bataille en cours dans ce monde. C'est la mère de toutes les petites batailles ici et là. Paul parle du bon combat de la foi. Il y a un bon combat et un mauvais combat dans la vie. Lequel combattez-vous ?

 Eh bien, il vaut la peine de savoir que la vie elle-même est un combat, depuis la conception jusqu'à l'accouchement et tout au long du parcours de la vie. Il y a des batailles ; des batailles pour une chose ou une autre ; lutter contre une chose et contre l'autre. Même si vous ne voulez pas vous battre, il y a des choses qui vous combattront ; les gens vous combattront ; le diable et son royaume vous combattront ; même votre chair vous combattra (Galates 5 : 16-18). 

Le monde dans lequel nous vivons n’est pas un endroit convivial. Plus particulièrement lorsqu’il s’agit d’opérer le royaume de Dieu ou de se frayer un chemin vers les choses de Dieu. Notre maître dit : 

«Et depuis les jours de Jean-Baptiste jusqu'à présent, le royaume des cieux souffle de violence, et les violents s'en emparent de force.» (Matt 11:12)

De plus, Il a dit que dans ce monde, nous (Ses disciples) connaîtrons de nombreuses tribulations. 

"Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que vous ayez la paix en moi. Dans ce monde, vous aurez des difficultés. Mais prenez courage ! J'ai vaincu le monde." (Jean 16 :33). 

Vous devez être prêt à vous battre. Et l’assurance est que Christ a vaincu pour nous. Alléluia!
