Fighting the Good Fight of Faith (Part Three) / Combattre le Bon Combat de la Foi Troisième Partie)

2 Timothy 4:7

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

From the above passages, Paul summarises his life and ministry with two pictures, a fight and a race, because that is what the Christian life can be compared too. From Genesis to Revelation we can see that image of battles as far as our lives on earth are concerned. 

There is a battle that started in heaven (Revelation 12:7-12) and has been deported to earthly realm. Be sure about this, life on earth is a battle. The fight is not the fight to get rich in the world to the detriment of our souls. For what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his soul?  The good fight Paul talks about is the good fight of faith. It has a major focus: 

1. Pursue God-like virtues: righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 

2. Take hold of the eternal life. 

Jesus gave us the same focus while concluding His teaching on money and the cares of life in Matthew 6: 31-33 

_"...So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”_ Hallelujah! 

The Bible says clearly that all these things will be given to you freely. It makes no sense to fight and focus on what I can get freely if I decide to focus on the important matters. This is not to say that we should not work to earn a salary or other things, No! But that we should not take away our focus on what matters the most- THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. The devil seeks to distract people with these things. 

The truth is that as we seek God and our soul prospers in the Lord, so will our lives prosper in all respect as well! (3 John 2). 

Fighting the good fight of faith is all about standing for what you believe the scripture says, both in confession and in action; that is, matching your confession with the corresponding actions.

 Our problem is not that we are not blessed or that we are not powerful. But the problem sometimes is that we fail to match our beliefs with our confessions; and we fail to match our confessions with the corresponding actions. 

There are principles and promises that should guide our lives. We need faith in actions to remain victorious.

When you look at the text, 

_“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."_

It suggests that there were intentionality and actions. This passage brings out the aspect of focus, discipline and diligence that we need to have as Paul our model had in his ministry- keeping the faith, staying true to his confession. 

Don't get distracted with many fights, one fight matters, the good fight of faith.

"J'ai combattu le bon combat, j'ai terminé la course, j'ai gardé la foi."

À partir du passage ci-dessus, Paul résume sa vie et son ministère avec deux images: un combat et une course, car c'est à cela aussi que la vie chrétienne peut être comparée. De la Genèse à l’Apocalypse, nous pouvons voir cette image de batailles en ce qui concerne notre vie sur terre. 

Il y a une bataille qui a commencé dans le ciel (Apocalypse 12 : 7-12) et qui a été déportée vers le domaine terrestre. Soyez-en sûr, la vie sur terre est un combat. Le combat n’est pas le combat pour s’enrichir dans le monde au détriment de nos âmes. Car à quoi sert-il à un homme de gagner le monde entier et de perdre son âme ? Le bon combat dont parle Paul est le bon combat de la foi. Il a un axe majeur : 

1. Recherchez les vertus divines : la justice, la piété, la foi, l’amour, l’endurance et la douceur. 

2. Saisir la vie éternelle. 

Jésus nous a donné la même orientation en concluant son enseignement sur l'argent et les soucis de la vie dans Matthieu 6 : 31-33.

 "... Alors ne vous inquiétez pas en disant : 'Qu'allons-nous manger ?' ou "Qu'allons-nous boire?" ou "Que devons-nous porter?" Car les païens courent après toutes ces choses, et votre Père céleste sait que vous en avez besoin. Mais cherchez d’abord son royaume et sa justice et toutes ces choses vous seront données par surcroît. » Alléluia ! 

La Bible dit clairement que toutes ces choses vous seront données gratuitement. Cela n’a aucun sens de me battre et de me concentrer sur ce que je peux obtenir gratuitement si je décide de me concentrer sur les questions importantes. Cela ne veut pas dire que nous ne devrions pas travailler pour gagner un salaire ou autre chose, non ! Mais nous ne devons pas nous détourner de ce qui compte le plus : LE ROYAUME DE DIEU ET SA JUSTICE. 

Le diable cherche à distraire 

les gens avec ces choses. La vérité est que si nous recherchons Dieu et que notre âme prospère dans le Seigneur, nos vies prospéreront également à tous égards ! (3 Jean 2). 

Mener le bon combat de la foi, c'est avant tout défendre ce que vous croyez que disent les Écritures, à la fois en confession et en action ; c'est-à-dire faire correspondre votre confession aux actions correspondantes. Notre problème n’est pas que nous ne sommes pas bénis ou que nous ne sommes pas puissants. Mais le problème est parfois que nous ne parvenons pas à faire correspondre nos croyances avec nos confessions ; et nous ne parvenons pas à faire correspondre nos confessions avec les actions correspondantes.

Il existe des principes et des 

promesses qui devraient guider nos vies. Nous avons besoin de foi dans les actions pour rester victorieux. 

Quand on regarde le texte, 

« J'ai mené le bon combat, j'ai terminé la course, j'ai gardé la foi. »

Cela suggère qu’il y avait une intentionnalité et des actions. Ce passage fait ressortir l'aspect de concentration, de discipline et de diligence que nous devons avoir comme Paul, notre modèle, dans son ministère : garder la foi, rester fidèle à sa confession. Ne vous laissez pas distraire par de nombreux combats, un seul combat compte, le bon combat de la foi.
