WHEN A GIANT FALLS 

2 Samuel 24

  The world has known great men achieving great things in their lives but their ends were never the desired end. One of the best architectural works in the world has been the building of the Titanic ship. But unfortunately it didn't last for long, and there may have been a divine hand in the failure of Titanic. In fact it is said that the creator of Titanic blatantly said that "not even God would sink the Titanic." But little did he know that his pride would cause him his success. Just a little crack on the outer cover of Titanic was enough to destroy it. 

   Beloved, great achievement can collapse just by little crack. Right here in 2 Samuel 24 David the giant and very successful King falls and brings great destruction on his people. Beloved, the key note in this devotional today is that, no matter how successful you have became, a little sin will bring great destruction into your life. Let us see how true this is from the life of David in 2 Samuel 24.

💔  I- The "Little" Sin (of David) - Vv 1-9

  In verses 1-9 the Bible says that David ordered a census of his people. A census is the counting of the population. To the people of God this was not to be done haphazardly. David first did the census of the population but caused by Satan. But here it is not more the devil who pushes David, instead David does it on his personal free choice. What we notice from the verses is that David was not conducting this census because he wanted to honor God; he was conducting this census because he wanted to delight in himself! When you read down to verse 9 you see that his whole point was to count the number of soldiers he had in his army. David's motive was to glory himself in the number of men in his army. 

  One of the first signs of the failure of a giant, a successful man is to replace gratitude to God by pride and boasting in his achievement. The next that is similar to this is when the trust in God's promise is replaced by trust in oneself. That is a great sin before the Lord; and any sin no matter it size brings consequences.

💔 II- Consequences of David's Sin - Vv10-15

  As soon as the census was completed and the report given to David, the Bible says "But David’s heart struck him after he had numbered the people." (v10a) In the verses that follow God sends Prophet Gad with a message of judgment against the actions of David.  God goes as far as giving David the choice of his punishment; either famine over the land, running at the pursuit of their enemies or years of plagues. In v14 it is recorded that David chose to be punished by God's hands, and in v15 God brings the plague over the land. Just as God had warned in Exodus, when the nation turned away from trusting in Him and began to delight in their own self-sufficiency, when David began to think that the great and impressive army he had numbered belonged to him—God sent a plague on the people. Over the space of three days, seventy thousand men died.

  Beloved, the wages of sin remains death (destruction). God is love but He is also just to keep to His word of punishing sin whenever it happens. No matter what sin you allow in your life it will bring great destruction, but glory be to God for through His mercy a solution is made possible.

💖 III- The Solution to Sin - Vv16-25

  The story continues as David in v17 says, "And David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel that struck down the people, and said, “Look, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? I pray you, let your hand be against me and against my father’s house”. David takes steps to be preserved from destruction by humbly repenting from his sins. We will never find any refuge from this destruction until we repent from sins. Our refuge from destruction also come from a costly sacrifice. In v21-25 David takes to make sacrifices to God for His mercy.

   Beloved, be warned of any little fox (sin) in your life, it will bring great destruction. You may have fallen already into pride for your success or any other sin. God is still merciful. David made sacrifices of thanksgiving for God's forgiveness, but the greatest sacrifice for your forgiveness was made by God letting His Son Jesus Christ die for your sins. God still loves you but hate the sin in you. Go back to God in repentance and He will forgive you. Shalom

QUAND UN GÉANT TOMBE 

2 Samuel 24 

Le monde a connu de grands hommes réalisant de grandes choses dans leur vie, mais leurs fins n'étaient jamais la fin souhaitée. L'une des meilleures œuvres architecturales au monde a été la construction du navire Titanic. Mais malheureusement, il n'a pas duré longtemps, et il y a peut-être eu une main divine dans l'échec du Titanic. En fait, on dit que le créateur du Titanic a déclaré franchement que "même Dieu ne coulerait pas le Titanic". Mais il ne savait pas que son orgueil causerait sa réussite. Juste une petite fissure sur la couverture extérieure du Titanic suffisait à le détruire. Bien-aimés, de grandes réalisations peuvent s'effondrer juste par une petite fissure. 

Ici même dans 2 Samuel 24, David, le géant et roi très réussi, tombe et apporte une grande destruction à son peuple. Bien-aimés, la note clé dans ce dévotionnel aujourd'hui est que, peu importe à quel point vous avez réussi, un petit péché apportera une grande destruction dans votre vie. Voyons comment cela est vrai à partir de la vie de David dans 2 Samuel 24. 

💔 I- Le "petit" péché (de David) - Vv 1-9 

Dans les versets 1-9, la Bible dit que David a ordonné un recensement de son peuple. Un recensement est le décompte de la population. Pour le peuple de Dieu, cela ne devait pas être fait à la légère. David a d'abord fait le recensement de la population, mais cela a été causé par Satan. Mais ici, ce n'est plus le diable qui pousse David, mais David le fait de son propre choix personnel. Ce que nous remarquons dans les versets est que David n'a pas mené ce recensement parce qu'il voulait honorer Dieu ; il a mené ce recensement parce qu'il voulait se délecter de lui-même ! Lorsque vous lisez jusqu'au verset 9, vous voyez que son point principal était de compter le nombre de soldats qu'il avait dans son armée. 

Le motif de David était de se glorifier lui-même dans le nombre d'hommes dans son armée. L'un des premiers signes de l'échec d'un géant, d'un homme réussi, est de remplacer la gratitude envers Dieu par l'orgueil et la vantardise de ses réalisations. Le suivant qui est similaire à cela est lorsque la confiance dans la promesse de Dieu est remplacée par la confiance en soi-même. C'est un grand péché devant le Seigneur ; et tout péché, quelle que soit sa taille, apporte des conséquences. 

💔 II- Conséquences du péché de David - Vv10-15 

Dès que le recensement a été terminé et le rapport donné à David, la Bible dit "Mais le cœur de David le frappa après qu'il eut dénombré le peuple." (v10a) Dans les versets qui suivent, Dieu envoie le prophète Gad avec un message de jugement contre les actions de David. Dieu va jusqu'à donner à David le choix de sa punition ; soit la famine sur la terre, la course à la poursuite de leurs ennemis ou des années de fléaux. Dans le verset 14, il est enregistré que David a choisi d'être puni par les mains de Dieu, et dans le verset 15, Dieu amène le fléau sur la terre. 

Juste comme Dieu l'avait averti dans l'Exode, lorsque la nation s'est détournée de la confiance en Lui et a commencé à se délecter de sa propre suffisance, lorsque David a commencé à penser que la grande et impressionnante armée qu'il avait dénombrée lui appartenait — Dieu a envoyé un fléau sur le peuple. Sur l'espace de trois jours, soixante-dix mille hommes sont morts. Bien-aimés, le salaire du péché reste la mort (la destruction). Dieu est amour, mais Il est aussi juste pour tenir à Sa parole de punir le péché chaque fois qu'il se produit. Peu importe quel péché vous permettez dans votre vie, il apportera une grande destruction, mais gloire à Dieu, car par Sa miséricorde, une solution est rendue possible. 

💖 III- La solution au péché - Vv16-25 

L'histoire continue alors que David, dans le verset 17, dit : "Et David parla au SEIGNEUR lorsqu'il vit l'ange qui frappait le peuple, et dit : “Regarde, j'ai péché, et j'ai fait le mal. Mais ces brebis, qu'ont-elles fait ? 

Je prie que ta main soit contre moi et contre la maison de mon père.
